IDIAI Educational Conference

April 14-16, 2020

March 19, 2020

Fellow members, friends, it is with great consternation that I confirm to each of you that our 58th Annual Spring Educational Conference has been canceled. We, the officers and board members of the Illinois Division, have spent much of the last week discussing and pondering out next move for the division. We have agreed that it would be best to not hold a 3-day conference at all this year, due to the continuing uncertainty involving the Covid-19 Virus.

We had explored the idea of trying to re-schedule for the fall, but we did not want to go that route with the foreseeable future looking so unclear. It is always our intention to put on the best, most informative training possible, while providing a safe environment for networking and fellowship, and that is simply not possible right now.

Our plans for the rest of 2020 are still to hold a 1-day workshop sometime in the fall, and have our next 3-day educational conference April 13-15, 2021. As the current President, and an extreme optimist, this has been a tough decision for me, as I personally feel we had an amazing program set up for you to enjoy.

In my Presidential address, I commented on the I.D.I.A.I. family, and those comments are even more true today than when I typed them nearly a year ago. These are trying times for everyone, but those of us in law enforcement, and on the crime scene and lab side of forensic services, face an even greater burden. We have to carry on with our jobs, knowing there may be that extra risk, while also dealing with the effects this has had on our home and personal lives. For me, the relationships I have built with my fellow division officers and board members, and many of you, give me added strength, determination, and hope for the future. I urge each of you to reach out to the others in the division if you need anything, and be available should someone reach out to you.

Law Enforcement has always been seen as a brotherhood or team, and we are all members of an even more exclusive club. We, even more than normal patrol officers, see the worst of the worst and the lowest times imaginable, yet we so often fail to seek out assistance for ourselves. Now and always, I hope and pray that each of you take care of your loved ones, take care of yourselves and take care of each other!

We will reach out to you all when we begin to organize the fall workshop, and again when we start planning conference 2021. If at any time, you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me or any of our officers or board members. Wishing you all best wishes and good health.
